A non-profit UK based organisation whose stated purpose is to understand events and activities commonly described as psychic or paranormal. It was founded in 1882, and was the first organisation of its kind in the world.

The SPR is frequently referred to in Victorian and Edwardian literature as the "Psychical Research Society".

It has done much research into psychical phenomena, with members expressing a range of opinions.

A number of persons associated with the SPR are linked to the Voynich Manuscript. These include Ethel Lilian Voynich’s mother Mary nee Everest, several of Ethel and Wilfrid Voynich’s associates and Dr William Newbold.
